First Daedalus Refit (Block-1)
Starfleet's first regular production line of the Daedalus Class starships (designated Block-1) differed a great deal from the Daedalus prototype and the earlier NX Class starships. To better handle and control the output from the large Daedalus warp reactor, the asymmetric warp nacelles developed for the NX Class ships were replaced with new symmetrical nacelles. This eliminated the need for a warp governor and greatly increased the ability of these ships to maneuver at warp speed.

The Daedalus starship retained the modular design developed for the Daedalus freighter. The distinctive “rings” on the hull of Daedalus were used to join the modular sections of the ship together. This allowed portions of the ship to be built on the Martian surface and then transported to the Utopia Planitia orbital complex for final assembly. While weapons and hull polarization was improved, expensive systems such as the human-rated transporter and advanced impulse engines of the NX Class were replaced with more standard systems designed for earlier Earth ships. Overall, production cost of the Block-1 Daedalus starships was only a fraction of that spent on pre-war capital vessels.
